Snow Routes
❄️ How Weather Decisions Are Made
The Night Before:
When snow or freezing weather is forecasted, regional school superintendents meet with the National Weather Service to review conditions and projections.
4:00 AM Road Check:
A district team is out driving roads across the district — especially in our more challenging out-of-town areas such as Gold Hill and Sams Valley. The team takes photos and evaluates:
-
Road surface conditions
-
Ice accumulation
-
Visibility
-
Bus route safety
-
Traffic patterns
Decision Point:
A decision must be made to:
-
Run normal routes
-
Run snow routes
-
Delay school by 2 hours
-
Cancel school
Safety of students, families, and our young high school drivers is always the priority.
🌨 Why Decisions Sometimes Change
Weather can shift quickly.
Occassionally, conditions worsen after elementary buses have already begun routes. As road conditions decline and traffic increases, we may have to make the decision to run snow routes for secondary students (middle and high school).
When conditions deteriorate, we must respond in real time to protect students and drivers.
