La Clinica has notified us that they have received doses of the pediatric Covid-19 vaccine (Pfizer) and will be administering it locally. A vaccination clinic will be offered at Crater High School (655 N. 3rd Street, Central Point) on Saturday, November 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Crater gym. The vaccinations are free and open to any child ages 5 to 11 years old. Additionally, vaccinations are available at several school-based health centers. Call 541-618-1300 to schedule an appointment of call your school-based health center directly.
We know that some parents/guardians have concerns and questions about the pediatric vaccine. For medical questions, we encourage parents to reach out to their trusted medical providers for information that will help them make a decision that is right for their family. Additional information can be found at the CDC website and OHA website.
Parents/Guardians have also inquired whether the Covid-19 vaccine will be a requirement to attend public schools. It is a lengthy process at the state level to add a vaccine to our current required list of vaccines. State officials have advised it could take up to 1 year to add a vaccine to the list, and the earliest we may see a requirement added would be next school year. Please see this link for more information about current vaccination requirements and the exemption process. When more information is available, we will share it with our families.
Our goal is to continue to keep our schools open, healthy, and accessible for all students. While there is great divide in our community and nation over this issue (and others), we continue to navigate this situation together. We have been able to work to meet this goal through patience, perseverance, and the creative efforts of teachers, administrators, students, and parents. Our community has shown respect for differing viewpoints. Thank you. As we move forward this year, let’s continue to work together to keep our schools open and serving our children.
