A Message from Mr. Rambo

Spring is here and that means a busy time of year at Jewett Elementary.  The end of the second trimester is March 6th. Yes, that is this Friday!  Teachers will be working on report cards and organizing Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Conferences will be on       March 18th, 19th and 20th.

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be taking the new state assessment (Smarter Balanced) when we return from Spring Break.  Teachers have been working hard to prepare our students for this new assessment.  We have been utilizing the new chrome books purchased by the PTO to ensure our students are ready.  As parents, you can encourage your child to do their best.  As with anything new, there is some level of anxiety around this new assessment.  Please make sure your student knows you support them regardless of how they do on one test.

Lastly, this week (March 2-6) is Classified Employee Week.  Jewett is blessed to have such a dedicated and professional classified staff.  They do everything from teaching students to read to monitoring them on the playground.  Jewett is a special place because of how much our classified staff cares for your students.  If you get the opportunity, let them know how much you appreciate what they do!

Mr. Rambo

STUDENT SAFETY ALERT!

The crosswalk on 10th street is for students walking to school. Parents should not let students out of their car on 10th street while traffic is stopped for the crosswalk.    Parents can pull to a side street and let their student out or use the crosswalk at the front of the school.

Volunteer Application Information

All adults who would like to volunteer in a classroom or chaperone a field trip must have a District 6 volunteer application turned in and approved prior to helping with students.  All applications must be turned in at least one week prior to the event, as it takes a week to get the application processed.

What’s New!!

NEW SPANISH PHONE LINE

Jewett  Elementary has a new Spanish Phone Line!  If you are needing to communicate with someone in Spanish, please call 541-494-6608.  Here you will be able to leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.  Please do not leave any going home changes.  Those calls will still need to be made to the office at 541-494-6607.

AUTOMATED ATTENDANCE CALLING SYSTEM

On December 1st, we will implement a new automated attendance calling system.  As per state law, we are required to notify the parent/guardian of a student who is marked absent.  These calls will only be made to parents who have not notified the school of a student’s absence by 8:30 am.  This new system does not excuse parents from communicating with the school when their student is absent.  We appreciate your support in helping us ensure all of our students are safe.

**Important Recall Update**

Parents / Guardians,

See’s candy has just informed us of a recall pertaining to some of the items sold during our most recent fundraiser.  The recall is for the 8oz. Classic Red Heart with Assorted Chocolates with the bar code 737666091201 and the stamped date L.A.N. 048/15.  These chocolates may have undeclared “tree nuts” in them and may pose a serious health risk to people with nut allergies.

Please see our website or face book page for the information that Sees’s Candy Company provided us.  http://www.district6.org/jes/ or https://www.facebook.com/JESCPSD6

We will rely on you to pass this information out to those people who purchased this specific product.  You can find out who ordered that product by looking on the order form that was returned to your student with the candy.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

If you have further questions please contact the main office at 541 494-6600.
