Southern Oregon University offers college prep courses to help your student improve their SAT score and assist them in the college admission/application process. Below are the classes offered now and coming this spring.

Conquer the Essay

Ages 15-18
Boost your score on the SAT timed essay or enhance your college entrance essay. Build a knowledge bank of specific examples from history, literature, and personal experience. Then practice writing timed essays on a variety of topics. You will develop confidence in your writing, strengthen vocabulary and grammar skills, increase reading comprehension, improve critical/creative thinking skills and expand your descriptive writing abilities.

SAT Prep

Ages 15-18
This SAT prep class will provide you with effective strategies for answering both the verbal and math sections of the test as well as honing your writing skills for the essay portion. You will review important subject matter, learn to control test anxiety, learn how to manage your time during the test, and gain helpful tips to have a positive SAT experience. NOTE: SAT study guide is included in the course fee.

College Prep 101 for Parents

Each year of high school brings important steps in the college admissions and application process. Are you and your student prepared? Learn how to establish a college planning timeline for success. Help your student know which colleges to apply to and learn tips for higher scoring on the SAT/ACT Tests. Learn the five questions to ask colleges before your student applies, as well as how to increase your potential to receive scholarships, grants and other gift aid.

Help is Available

Help is Available–

  • Teacher supervised, free peer-tutor help is available every week–Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during lunch in room 74.
  • The National Honor Society offers tutoring in all subjects on Thursdays from 3:45-4:45 p.m. in room 27. The cost is $40 for five consecutive 1-hour sessions. See Ms. Sullivan in room 27.
  • Monday Math (free) from 9-11:30 a.m. on Mondays in room 10.
